Wyoming Cowboy basketball player is one of 60 Mexican players invited to tryout.

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Cowboy basketball player Francisco "Paco" Cruz is one of 60 native Mexicans who have been invited to compete for a spot on Mexico's World University Games roster this summer.
Cruz will be in Mexico City from June 24-30, where he will train with the top-60 Mexican players. The top-18 players in that group will remain in the country for a three-week practice period, which will include four games.
The team will then be trimmed to a final roster size of 12 players and three reserves. That group will play a four-game stretch against other national teams in Chihuahua, Mexico, from July 27-30. One of those scheduled games will pit Mexico against the United States.
That final roster will compete in the Men's World University Games from August 13-23 in Shenzhen, China.
The World University Games are organized by the International University Sports Federation and are held every other year. The games are open to men and women between the ages of 17 and 24, who have been a college student within the past year.
Cruz, who will be a senior for the Cowboys during the 2011-12 season, is a native of Nogales, Mexico. He attended two years of high school at Abraham Lincoln High in Denver, Colo., where he led his team to a pair of Class 4A state titles. He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons of college at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Neb.
As a junior this past season, Cruz started 30 games and played in all 31 games for the Cowboys. He averaged 10.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists a game. He scored in double figures 16 times, 10 of which came in Mountain West play.
